Election 41: Day 24

April 18, 2011 at 1:31 pm (Election 2011, Politics) (, , , )

A few polls were released this morning, and they all say something different – but only one nearly made my jaw drop.

  • Angus Reid put the NDP and the Liberals tied at 25 percent, and showed the Conservatives with a significant lead. Sure, Jack Layton is making progress, but I find it very hard to believe he could be even with the Liberals at this point.
  • Nanos Research also has the Tories with a double-digit lead on the Liberals, but the NDP is behind with around 17 percent.
  • Abacus shows less of a difference between the top two parties (eight points), with the NDP at 20 percent and the Greens with five percent.

Though I rather enjoy watching the numbers rise and fall (or stay the same, in some cases), it really is true that the only poll that counts is the one on election day, which is now just two weeks away.

In local news, candidates have been hearing lots about health care on the campaign trail. Liberal MP Bob Rae was in town this morning to help out Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry hopeful Bernadette Clement. Rae is popping over to Glengarry, Prescott and Russell tonight to shore up support for Julie Bourgeois, who is also hosting Stephane Dion tomorrow.
