Bus stabbing
A man travelling on a Greyhound bus in Manitoba was decapitated by the guy sitting next to him. The victim – who was only around 20 years old and didn’t know his killer – was stabbed several times as well. It’s sickening. The reports say the attacker was extremely calm about the whole thing, which makes it even more disturbing.
One of my first thoughts was that soon bus security will be as tough as at the airport, but safety minister Stockwell Day said that won’t happen, since the incident was extremely rare. Still, maybe bus transportation companies should have at least a short list of prohibited items … like knives, maybe?

Quite often, I grab myself a chai, get to work a few minutes early and cruise through the big papers online. So, it was quite a shock to the system to be reading what felt like the storyline for a horror movie first thing in the morning.
Poor young guy. Media outlets are saying the victim has been identified, mainly through popping around Facebook and calling the family who did confirm he was on that route.
I think those who kept the guy inside of the bus before the RCMP arrived are some brave souls, because chances are good I would have been one of the ones off in the bushes, throwing up.

I’m with you on that last point, Katie. It’s amazing what some people can do in extreme circumstances. I’m not sure if I would have the presence of mind to help the situation, if my reporter instincts would kick in, or if I would just go into shock.
